Quickbase Tutorials

Code Pages Developer Lab

Learn Quickbase development by building real working Code Page examples, one concept at a time.

Follow a complete lesson plan from Quickbase table and field references through XML and REST API requests, server-side queries, CRUD operations, pagination, schema discovery, and relationships.

Each tutorial preserves the working example from that stage of the lab so you can follow the progression, inspect the code, and see exactly what changed from one lesson to the next.

Quickbase Code Pages Learning Roadmap

The lessons form one continuous curriculum. You begin by identifying the Quickbase objects an API request needs, retrieve records through both legacy XML and modern REST APIs, and then progressively learn how to query, create, update, delete, paginate, and inspect Quickbase application structure.

The goal is not merely to copy finished code. Each lesson isolates a specific Quickbase concept so you can see the request, response, and JavaScript behavior that make the example work.

The progression of the lab

1. Identify Quickbase objects
2. Retrieve Quickbase records
3. Understand the response
4. Control data with JavaScript
5. Change records through the API
6. Inspect and build application structure

New to the lab?

Begin by creating the small People table used throughout the tutorials and identify the table DBID and Field IDs used by the API examples.

Lesson 1A

Read Records with XML API

Learn how Quickbase tables, Field IDs, Application Tokens, API_DoQuery, and structured XML work together to retrieve People records.

Working example: PeoplePage_xml.html

Lesson 1B

Read Records with REST API

Query the same People table with the Quickbase REST API and learn how temporary authorization, JSON requests, Field IDs, and REST responses replace the XML workflow.

Working example: PeoplePage_rest.html

Lesson 2

Control Returned Data with Client-Side Sorting

Retain Quickbase records in JavaScript, manipulate the client-side dataset, and re-render it without sending another request to Quickbase.

Working example: PeoplePage_sort.html

Lesson 3

Query Quickbase with Search Criteria

Build a REST where expression and send it to Quickbase so only records matching the requested criteria are returned.

Working example: PeoplePage_search.html

Lesson 4

Quickbase Query Operators

Explore Quickbase query operators beyond EX and learn how different comparisons control which records the REST API returns.

Lesson 5

Add Records

Begin the CRUD workflow by sending People field values to the Quickbase REST API and creating a new record.

Working example: PeoplePage_add.html

Lesson 6

Edit Records

Continue the CRUD workflow by identifying an existing People record and sending updated field values to Quickbase.

Lesson 7

Delete Records

Complete the CRUD workflow by identifying an existing People record, deleting it through the Quickbase REST API, and confirming the result.

Lesson 8

Pagination

Request and display larger datasets in manageable pages.

Lesson 9

Schema Discovery

Build a reusable Quickbase Schema Explorer that discovers the current app, lists its tables, and inspects table, field, and relationship metadata.
